One of my personal heroes. Damn. I always meant to write him a postcard to thank him for his work. Thank you Harvey - you’re a true American Original.
RIP of the Day: Legendary comic book writer Harvey Pekar passed away today of as-yet unknown causes.
He was 70 years old.

Blondie - “(I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear”
“Alright, you monkeys…”
Years before I understood what sexual intercourse was, I knew I wanted to do something exotic, embarrassing, and probably unspeakable to Debbie Harry.
That whatever z-list moves I might cobble together would completely disgust her—that my awkward circus of grapplings, nuzzles, and ad hoc frottage would almost certainly make her do that delirious thing with her upper lip—just made the fantasy that much more intoxicating.
She was my canonical boner machine.
The phrase “canonical boner machine” is going in my lexicon.

Jane Wiedlin does Art Frahm, complete with CELERY. I’m still vain enough to think I am responsible for the CELERY.

Interesting concept and I’m pretty close to trying it out for size.

Hay! We ever gonna get Tumblarity back? GOD I MISS THAT.
I know it’s not a popular sentiment, but I’m with Rick on this one. I don’t see some magical difference in the quality of the posts now that there’s no Tumblarity and I enjoyed being able to immediately gauge whether people found whatever I had posted interesting. I mean, whatever, it’s not a big deal or anything and I’m certainly not torn up about it, but I thought it was a nice little feature.

What next, indeed. He should update it from the last 30(!) years.
Robert Crumb, “A Short History of America”, 1979
Chris Ware on the strip, quoted in Todd Hignite’s In the Studio: Visits with Contemporary Cartoonists:
I’m obviously prone to hyperbole, but “A Short History of America” has got to be one of the greatest comic strips ever drawn; I find myself thinking about it, looking at it, and stealing from it probably more than any other single page. Even if this was all Robert Crumb ever drew, that’d be enough…
